Match Report
Warwick School Boys-U14T vs  VAR Academy, Colombo
On: Sunday, 24 Mar 2024
Venue: Away

(Apologies - a few details still to confirm from the full scorecard - I will update)

Our first matches on tour took place at the Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club in Colombo, an historic ground and club, which has hosted test matches in the past and still hosts first class cricket. (See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamil_Union_Cricket_and_Athletic_Club

Again our opponents won the toss and batted. Evans started us off strongly with an excellent first over and a wicket in his second. Davis from the other end was hit for six from his very first ball, and a four from his second, before striking back brilliantly to bowl all his four overs in a row, with figures of 4-0-xx-2, helped by fine catches from Dunning and Pitt. Dunlop’s wicket reduced our opponents to 34-4, and firmly on the back foot. Further good fielding also accounted for three run-outs in the second half our their innings and a close on 110-7.

Our reply featured Pitt and Dunning opening, providing exactly the steady start required. Then with a storm clearly on the way, they managed to accelerate sufficiently to place us above the ‘Duckworth-Lewis-Stern’ rate after over 9, when we were forced off by bad light and then torrential rain.

Champagne moment: the run out involving Singh & Downes

VAR Academy U13 110-7 (20 overs), WS U14 42-0 (9 overs) – won by 10 wkts (DLS).
