Match Report
Warwick School U15B vs  King Edward's School, Birmingham
On: Monday, 11 Sep 2023
Venue: at Home

A tricky first game with a lot of boys 'blowing off the cobwebs' after many months without any hockey. We started the stronger side and dominated most of the possession and territory in the first half but without being able to turn pressure into many clear-cut chances, or chances into goals. We fell behind to one of KES's few attacking moves. In the second half the game was more even, although we continued to press. A few more balls played beyond the defensive line helped to fashion more chances but our finishing was insufficient to convert any of them: on another day we could have scored four or five, but as it was KES again showed the benefit of clinical finishing to double their lead. After this we started to chase the game, whilst tiredness became an increasing issue. With midfielders tracking back less frequently we were open to counter-attacking goals from which KES duly profited. Despite the scoreline, which was harsh, there were many positives we can take into training and future matches as the season continues.
